The Horrors wouldn't normally be my cup of tea, in all honesty. The first record was shocking barring a single or two, and catching them live a year or so ago supporting someone whose name escapes did nothing to change my mind. I'd pretty much written them off as wannabe Cramps, haircuts over substance.After seeing this years second LP, Primary Colours, receive a couple of extremely positive reviews i decided to give it a whirl and was pretty shocked. As unfamiliar it might be for bands, particularly British guitar bands, to outdo their debut, i was surprised just how much of an improvement it was, and one achieved with seeming a complete change in direction, drawing comparisons to The Jesus and Mary Chain, Echo and the Bunnymen, Joy Division & My Bloody Valentine.
It's the best record i've heard this year, maybe in a few.
