City Vox Pops, part 3

Is there a player who you think could prove a surprise package for us this season, maybe a youth player who could, even with all the new arrivals, get his chance, or perhaps just a senior player who could have a surprisingly good campaign?

Gary, We've Got Robinho
"If there is someone i am expecting to make a case for themselves this season, it would be Vladimir Weiss. He has shown that he has ability and skill, he has also started bulk up, which was needed, and I think he is ready. I have been watching Weiss for quite a long time now and I have never not been impressed with him, I think he will have his eye on a first team place"

Lloyd, Man City Issues
"I think that given the chance Nigel de Jong could be key for us this season. On tougher away days he will the man we will look to. As for an emerging youngster I think that it's got to be Vladimir Weiss. He looks class and could be biting at SWP's heels by December for a place in the starting eleven"

Jack, The Lonesome Death of Roy Carroll
"The obvious answer here is Vladi Weiss but I'd be surprised if he gets enough games to make a real impression. So I'm going to say Wayne Bridge, who is showing signs of becoming the player he once was, having struggled to adjust to the rhythms of playing football last season. Adebayor and Santa Cruz are going to love his crosses"

Ric, BlueMoon
"I think Vladimir Weiss has the raw talent to make an impact if given first team opportunities which, with the options we have upfront, make be unlikely"

Jason, This Is Our City
"If there was anyone to watch out for it would be Robert Mak, a City reserves forward of great potential who will undoubtedly break into the senior side, if not by the end of the season then by next season. Every time i watch Robbie play i get very excited and have watched him closely along with Vladimir Weiss"

Peter, Man City Blues
"Crystal ball time, this one. The obvious one would be Vlad Weiss. I’ve a feeling that one of our defenders will be hailed a hero this season. Bridge will work better in a 4-4-2, and Onuoha is improving all the time. Who knows? A lot of our success will be in keeping clean sheets"

Norfstander
"I'm not sure we'll see too many kids getting their chance for the next season or two. It's disappointing in a way, but our main aim has to be to win as many games as possible and perhaps, if not this season then next, sneak one of those top four spots or push for a cup. With that in mind i think Hughes will pick his strongest possible side week in, week out, as the recent tie at Palace indicates.

If a young player does break through, i'll go with an outside bet. Micah Richards seems to still be well of the pace, and Hughes not giving Zabaleta more action indicates that he's perhaps not 100% sure about the right-back position, and there's a bit of debate between fans, too. None of the youngsters are going to come in and play regularly, but perhaps Vidal or even Trippier could come in and make a positive impression. I doubt many kids are put into the team with the long-term in mind, there's always the risk of injuries and in that case anyone could step up to the plate, as previous academy graduates have done.

My choice for 'surprise package' though, would be either Craig Bellamy or Wayne Bridge. Ridiculous in a way, considering they both cost us over £10m, but few would put Bellamy in our strongest eleven now, he still has that edge about him, though, that if harnessed in the right way gives us something extra. I think he'll play more often than people might expect, and it's a good thing that we have players of his ilk ready to come into the team. Bridge has already looked much improved, as i think i mentioned the other day. He looks better going forward, more confident with the ball, fitter, hungrier, if only he could tackle!"

  3. I think Weiss has already improved greatly with his passing, i can see him making a concerted effort to look up and pass and did so very well at barca!

your man from mancity issues mentioned De Jong, i was very impressed with him in the england match, he played with alot more freedom than we had seen at city, sat in the middle and actually made some top quality balls forward beyond his normal short passing! I think he could be key to the midfield strength this season along with the bargain Barry! I think we can afford to play two solid midfielders together as Barry is versitile and we have great flair and strength around with robbie, swp, tevez and ade

  4. I hope that as the team settles Hughes might start to rest a couple of the senior team in cup games. I know we played our 1st 11 against palace, but after all we have spent in the summer it was vital to progess with a positive result. I would like to see players like weiss get a run out in some of the cup games, this would not only be good experiance for the youngster, but would reduce the playing time for vital player and reduce the chance of injury. We have never had a good enough squad to do this before, and still progress, but now we do!! I would like to see weiss give hughes somthing to think bout in cup games.
I would also like to see hughes play 442 and not 433, i think it would give us more width.
