The Courteeners, four lads from nearby Middleton, started gigging locally in late 2006. Until then lead-singer Liam Fray had been catching attention as a solo artist. Signing to Loog Records a year later they released debut single 'Cavorting'.
Former Smiths producer Stephen Street was approached to work on the first album. St. Jude followed on Polydor, reaching no.4 in the charts. I thought it was great, and they're always strong live, touring with Morrissey and Buzzcocks. Fray's a proper Manc frontman in the mould of Brown and Gallagher, shame he's a red.
This is a b-side to single 'Not Nineteen Forever', and uses the chords of a Stephen Fretwell track. A new album's due in January.
