The Smiths will need no introduction to most of you. Manchester's, maybe Britain's greatest ever band. Forming in 1982 after a young Johnny
Marr 'had his
Leiber and
Stoller moment',
bussing it from
Wythenshawe to introduce himself to '
Stretford bard'
Morrissey, they went on to sign to Rough Trade, put out some of the best albums of the eighties, and remain amongst the most iconic guitar groups of all time.
This, a b-side of second single 'This Charming Man' is one of their strongest tracks, in my opinion, and the perfect combination of
Marr's irresistible rolling chords and
Morrissey's lyrics.

One of the top five bands ever - and City fans (two of them at least) to boot!
ReplyDeleteCheers for that mate. Just played it seven times. Great start to my Saturday. I loved The Smiths. I don't think they ever made a bad record.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to see the great man himself in a couple of weeks.(Yet again.)
Still have to say Joy Division are the greatest Manchester band. Plus, Ian Curtis and their manager were both City supporters.
